Numerical study on behavior of eccentrically loaded concrete-filled bimetallic tubes

The concrete-filled bimetallic tubular (CFBT) member studied in this paper comprises a stainless steel/carbon steel tube infilled with core concrete. It has the advantages of enhanced mechanical property, good corrosion resistance and cost effectiveness. A finite element analysis (FEA) model is established to investigate performance eccentrically compressed CFBT short columns circular cross-section. verified against experimental results presented companion paper. comparisons show that FEA reproduces reasonably well failure mode, load-deformation response, ultimate strength strain development composite member. validated then used further loaded members, followed by wide-range parametric analysis. Results indicate two layers attain their before concrete core. material shows major effect on whilst coefficient friction for interface between different materials strain-hardening exponent have minor influence. Finally, applicability various design codes explored load-carrying capacity predicted AISC360-16 conservative, Eurocode 4 DBJ/T13-51–2010 produce relatively accurate predictions.
